Early Childhood Family Education

Early Childhood Family Education offers activities for parents and children together, with an emphasis on parent education and quality early childhood education. Skill development, information and support are offered through:

  • Parent child interaction time
  • Developmentally appropriate activities for children
  • Parent discussion time
  • Special Events
  • Resource libraries
  • Guest speakers
  • Workshops

Who: ECFE is for all families with children birth to kindergarten age and expectant parents.

When: Programs are offered both evenings and daytime hours based on community needs; classes are typically 1 1/2 hours long.

Where: Classes are held at Parkers Prairie Elementary Early Childhood room and the Urbank School.

How: Early Childhood Family Education programs are administered through the Community Education and Adult Vocational Education Departments. Funding is obtained through a combined local levy and state aid. Each school district program is administered and staffed by professionals licensed by the State of Minnesota in pre-kindergarten and/or parent education. Each program has an Advisory Council made up of local parents and community representatives.

Modest program fees are charged, however, fees can be waived based on family need.
