Schoolwide Title One

This is our second year of having Title One services using a Schoolwide Program (SWP) approach. Schoolwide is a term the Department of Education uses to describe Title One programs that have flexibility in which students are served and who provides the service. This means that all students at PPES can access support from Title One staff.
This year our staffing in Title One changed. Deb Olson continues to be our teacher in Title One, but this year she is serving only part time in that role. She is still in the building full time, doing great work with students, but she is filling other roles. We also have two paras supporting Title One, Kelli Klaessy and Carol Hoffman.
With our SWP we serve students both in the classroom and in a “pull out” (students leave their classroom) capacity. Title One supports students in a variety of ways. Some examples include – providing extra tutoring in specified areas for brief periods of time, supporting students in classrooms while the teacher concentrates efforts on small group or one on one type of needs, re-teaching concepts introduced in the classroom, and providing math or reading specific interventions. Because of the variety of services offered, all students may at some points work with Title One Staff.
