Students Take Part in Regional Math Masters Challenges
Fifth Graders take Fifth Place

          On March 14, 2008, a team of sixth-grade students participated in the regional Math Masters Challenge in Alexandria.  Team members were Sarah Bunde, Brandon Moats, James Vosburgh, Nic Shircliff, and Anna Guenther (alternates who participated were Logan Nibbe and Kaitlyn Kastner,). 
          One hundred seventy-five students competed individually and as teams of five on eight sets of mathematical problems.  The regional challenge event included the following components: individual fact drill, individual problem-solving rounds, and team problem-solving rounds.  Awards were presented in each component of the competition.
          Sarah Bunde placed seventh in the fact drills competition out of 165 sixth grade students in the fact drill.

 
          On April 24, 2008, a team of fifth-grade students participated in the regional Math Masters competition in Osakis.  Team members were   Reily Springer, Abigail Keop, Shelby Sowers, Elizabeth Wipper and Regan Onken (alternates who participated were Javelynn Kelm and Brandt Smith).
          Thirty-five teams of five participated in the competition. One hundred seventy-five students competed individually and as teams on eight sets of mathematical problems.  Parkers Prairie Fifth grade placed fifth out of thirty five teams, Abigail Keop placed tenth in the individual rounds out of one hundred seventy-five fifth graders and Elizabeth Wippler placed eleventh in the fact drill round out of one hundred seventy-five participating fifth graders.
          This year both teams celebrated their success with a lunch buffet at Pizza Ranch in Alexandria.  Math Masters is designed to challenge individual students and teams to use higher-order thinking skills and problem solving abilities.   The team advisors, Mrs. Christopherson (sixth grade) and Mr. Harrison (fifth grade), would like to thank the students and their families for their support and commitment to this academic program.  Great job students!
