Course Description: Emphasis will be put on developing office/computer skills necessary for creating quality business documents, proofreading and editing, and integrating workbooks and charts into word processing documents.  Microsoft Office will be utilized to refine and broaden skills. In addition, Internet research will be incorporated into some class projects.

Course Objectives:

The Student will:

1.    Become familiar and comfortable operating the computer.

2.    Improve composition at the keyboard.

3.    Develop speed and accuracy with the addition of proofreading skills.

4.    Create personal and business documents using different applications.

 

Evaluation/Grading

Students are not graded solely on content or completion of their compositions/assignments, but more so on stroking techniques and accuracy in proofreading and spell checking and proficiency with the computer concepts being taught.  Students are also evaluated on their production time in class and the quality of completed assignments. 

 

 

 

Completed assignments are graded as follows:

                       

                        A         zero errors

A-           one error

B+       two errors, etc.

Major Project

Research and design a 6-panel brochure describing a three day-two night trip for the class touring your city of choice, ex. Washington, D.C.  Include appropriate formatting, graphics, tables and charts.  A three to five minute presentation of your brochure to the class will complete the project.  Further details will be given at the time of project.
