People are excited about the future of Parkers Prairie Schools. At the May 20, 2008, meeting of the Parkers Prairie School Board, the Board voted to go forward with a referendum vote during the November, 2008, general election. The referendum will provide the voters the opportunity to approve additional funding for the operation of School District 547. Over thirty concerned individuals including board members, faculty, staff, parents and other citizens committed to education and a thriving community met at Parkers Prairie High School on Thursday, June 12, 2008, to jump start work on the passage of the school referendum.
The new referendum campaign is entitled “Strong Schools Form Our Future”. The slogan serves as a reminder that small towns simply cannot survive without a strong school presence. With the goal of continuing a strong school, the meeting focused on organizing those present into working committees. These committees and their chairs are as follows: Written and Radio Communications, Karen Lee and Kathee Carlson; Signs, Glenn Cornish; Presentations/Service Clubs, Ann Thoennes; Recent Graduates/Absentee Voters, Craig Christopherson; Verbal Communications, Tom Koep; Fund Raising, Curt and Barb Lind; and Special Events, Sarah Suchy. There will also be a board liaison working with each committee.
The next meeting for “Strong Schools Form Our Future” will be Thursday, June 26, 2008, at 7:00 P.M. in the high school Media Center. The committees welcome input and encourage interested persons to attend the meeting. Individuals seeking further information may contact the school at 218-338-6011.
